The most infamous hard climbs of Tenerife are found in the Western Massif of Teno, specifically around the village of Masca. We start with a van transfer to the town of Chío, where a good coffee at Bar Parada provides the perfect motivation for the following 80 km and over 2.200 mt of elevation gain.
Let’s begin some serious climbs that take us to Santiago del Teide and then over the Erjos Pass at 1,100 meters of altitude. From here, we enjoy a long descent through the forested area of “La Montañeta,” winding down to the coast at Icod de Los Vinos and riding by the sea on the scenic north coast, passing old banana plantations and typical villages like Garachico and Buenavista del Norte, where we stop for a coffee + sanwich break.
With energy restored, we start again riding a 14 km medium-grade climb to the famous viewpoint of “Baracán.” From here, we enter the heart of the Teno Massif, where steep descents followed by short but tough climbs lead us into the Masca Valley.
Ahead lies the ultimate challenge: an 8 km ascent with gradients between 15% and 20%—a true test of strength and determination. Finally, we reach the top at the viewpoint of “Cherfe,” where we begin the descent to Tamaimo and back to Chio, where the van is waiting for us.
Van Transfer from South Tenerife to the starting point, professional guide and mechanical assistance, bars, isotonic drinks and a coffe + sandwich stop along the ride.
